Newhouse Farm, Romsley, 1950s
Newhouse Farm was probably built by the Underhill family, who held two farmsin the Shut Mill valley from the Abbot of Halesowen. In 1534, Richard Underhill leased Fox Tenement (later known as Whitehall Farm) on condition that within two years he should build a house containing two bays for which the Abbey would provide the timber. Richard Underhill took a 1,000 year lease on some of this land in 1558. The family later lived at Calcot Hill in Clent parish, and a descendant, Elijah Underhill, was schoolmaster at Hunnington in 1731. |
