Katie Pickford, 1980s

Centenary Celebrations
1915 – 2015

Memories of Miss Katie Pickford - Pupil from 1982 onwards

  • Mrs Mound and the giant table spoon which she banged on the table to shut us up at lunchtime.
  • Mr Ruddick always smoking a pipe!
  • The pond at the back with the legendary frogspawn!
  • Several 'dens' on the edge of the field (don't think we were really allowed in them but we went in anyway)
  • Mrs Tandy, the legendary school secretary and tuck shop attendant (particularly recall her Hedgehog crisps!)
  • Visits from Rev'd Copley and latterly Rev'd Martin Clark
  • School discos and summer fete's (the most exciting events EVER)
  • Oh, except for the annual day trip to Weston Super Mare, or the residential trip to Ludlow (Mr Ruddick's class only!).
  • The treat that was being able to take your lunchbox and eat outside on the field if it was really sunny!
  • Getting the chance to ring the end of playtime bell if it was your birthday (or if your name was next on the list alphabetically!)
  • 1 a day, 2 a day... Maths books, and the Roger Red Hat and Billy Blue Hat range of reading books.
  • A personal memory for me was playing 'Fatima' in the school play alongside Kathryn Jones' Aladdin. Funniest bit was when the curtain opened early at the very start to reveal Mr Ruddick bending over to adjust some of the scenery!
